The Norwegian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs has employees distributed throughout 104 foreign service missions all over the world. Unified Communications supplied by Intelecom means that these employees are now able to communicate with each other, thus reducing the annual telephone bill by several million kroner.

A common telephonic platform allows the employees to talk to each other without paying any unit charges.
- Once we have moved our telephone traffic onto the already established data network, this solution will help us to make savings of several million kroner each year, says Rolf H. Jensen, Project Manager at the Norwegian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs.
Intelecom provides a common communication platform that integrates e-mail, Chat, telephony and mobile telephony. The 2,280 employees at foreign service offices and at the ministry’s offices in Oslo can search for their colleagues in Outlook and Office Communicator, or contact them by using a 5-digit phone number. The entire system is centrally operated and maintained from Oslo.
The aim is for all foreign service missions to be using the same platform and communications network by 2011. As soon as a new foreign service mission is connected to the central production system, all unit charges for that mission will disappear and telephony will be transferred to the data network.
- Intelecom's solution includes all the components required to provide the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a forward-looking and comprehensive communications solution for all employees worldwide, says Jensen.
The Norwegian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and its 104 foreign service missions, which include embassies, representatives, delegations and general consulates, jointly comprise the foreign office service.
